Profile information

The innate and adaptive immune system dictates the therapeutic design and biological outcome of an engineered material for the biomedical application. The ideal raw material that could regulate the complex immune systems are glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). My group develops biocompatible chemistries on GAGs with a precise immunological response to tailor materials that mimic or modulate cell-material interactions. By bringing together the expertise in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, material science, cellular engineering and drug delivery, my group aim to develop innovative therapeutic approaches that target specific cells and tightly regulate the immunomodulatory cues of organs and cells. We work at the chemistry-biology interface and design nanomaterials for drug and nucleic acid delivery, hydrogel scaffolds for regenerative medicine, engineer cell surface for transplantation and develop novel bioconjugation strategies.
