N2 - The advancements in technology have provided new opportunities for the delivery ofemergency messages. The Internet is now just as a good option as the more traditionalmeans of emergency message delivery, such as telephone networks. However some of theproblems concerning information security and technical solutions are quite different fromthe problems of the traditional means and the Internet has its own set of challenges.This Master's Thesis looks briefly at the pre-existing, so called the traditionalmeans of emergency message delivery, and explains some basic concepts of generalemergency messaging. The major part of this Thesis emphasises on giving an in depth lookat Internet-based emergency systems. This Thesis presents several emergency messagingsystem propositions made by others and introduces a new proposition made by the authorsof this Thesis. This new proposition shows how to use client-server architecture to delivermessages. The problems related to the use of the architecture are analysed. Problemsmentioned in the thesis are information safety, portability and compatibility with othersystems.
