Abstract

The general background for component cleanliness studies in is described. The cleanliness related research projects in Fluid Power are outlined shortly. The differences between oil cleanliness, component cleanliness, and technical cleanliness are discussed as well as the definitions and codes are presented. The component cleanliness code system (ISO 16232:2007, Part 10) is explained shortly.

The component cleanliness laboratory in TUT/IHA with concerning test equipment is described shortly. The ISO 16232 standard describes four different extraction methods for studied components. Two of them: pressure rinse and functional test bench are used actively in IHA. The examples of their use are presented in real research work.

The cleanliness of hydraulic hose assemblies was measured both with commercial test cabin and functional test bench. The washed hydraulic hoses were cut with seven different cutting methods and then the cleanliness of each hose stump was measured. The microscope pictures reveal what kind of particles was produced in each cutting ways. The range of hose assembly cleanliness results is presented and compared to the results of cut hose stumps. The cleanest hose cutting way is stated.
