Abstract

This paper discusses the aspects of offering a power-based distribution tariff (PBDT) structure for small customers. In the recent years, tariffs with a demand component have been discussed as potential options in the Smart Grid environment. In the paper, we present a study where the basis of the power charge of the tariff is varied for a selected PBDT structure assuming that the tariff would not affect the consumption behavior. In the study, real Distribution System Operator (DSO) information is used. The results show that the basis of the power charge would not affect considerably the revenue of the DSO. On the contrary, on the individual customer level, the changes can differ greatly depending on the charge basis. From the different alternative charge bases of the power charge, the option where the average of five highest hourly powers of each month would define the power charge provided interesting results.
