Abstract
Violent behavior against nurses has increased globally, especially against emergency department nurses, who face more violence than other nurses do. Previous studies have estimated that from 60 to 90% of the nurses face vio-lence at work. This study aims to chart the present situation of work-related violence in Finnish emergency departments. Six Finnish public emergency departments participated in the study, and the data for this paper was col-lected through semi-structured interviews and questionnaire. According to the questionnaire results, 40% of the nurses reported that they face physical violence at work monthly or more often, and 50% of the nurses face verbal abuse monthly or more often. Workplace violence has become commonplace in Finnish emergency departments.
