Tiivistelmä

Modern functionalist culture is indebted to the dialectic function-form, rooted in Western thought, from its classical origins to our days. The article analyzes the reasons for the crisis of this tradition in architecture, beginning in the 1930s and especially departing from Postmodernism; when part of the academic establishment, alerts about the necessity of a new discourse that would allow the "advance" of architecture. 1965 Th. W. Adorno’s reflections on functionalism are taken as the cornerstone, not only to review and criticize that historical moment, but also some aspects of our current situation. From Adorno’s thought we can conclude that the functional discourse could "enjoy good health" if we act in accordance with what he understands as the “autonomy” in architecture.
