Tiivistelmä
y front end of innovation (FFEI) beyond IT-industry. Specifically,
it focuses on the process design and execution. This study is based on the idea that hackathons are a specific type of innovation contest, and therefore reports
its particular design variables of coopetition and pitching. The empirical study includes one case with intra-organizational hackathon pilot in a technology company in traditional industry context. This paper presents both the process description along with the participation motivation and management’s role, and describes the innovation outcomes. Additionally, it reveals the feedback received after the pilot. Presenting conclusions for both academics and industry, the paper clarifies the literature of hackathons as a type of a innovation contest method for yielding ideas in FFEI, and functional beyond IT-industry.
